No Seat At The Table
Minem Sezgin, Stüdyo 501, Bant Mag.
'No Seat At the Table' is a graphic novel about the local effects of gentrification on residents who are disadvantaged by this process, in four different cities: Ankara, Istanbul, Amsterdam and Utrecht. The team consists of writer and social innovator Minem Sezgin, illustrator Bob Mollema for the story in Utrecht, illustrator Jasmijn de Noord for the story in Amsterdam, illustrator Rajab Eryigit for the story in Istanbul and illustrator Ali Fuad Boztepe for the story in Ankara. The project explores the differences and similarities between the changes in these cities due to this global phenomenon. The book tells the true stories of residents from the perspective of a dove. This dove is the storyteller in the book and symbolizes a strong observer who sees the city from above, but also someone without a voice in important decisions about urban renewal. The initial phase consists of literature and photographic research, field research and interviews with local residents and writing the first sketches. Other Turkish collaboration partners include architectural bureau Stüdyo 501 and media platform Bant Mag.
