QANAT A training for the not yet
LE18, Jeanne van Heeswijk
'QANAT A training for the not yet' is a platform addressing the politics and poetry of water, as part of the research project 'QANAT' by LE 18 (MA) and the training 'Preparing for the not yet' by Jeanne van Heeswijk (NL). Working with the local community of Marrakesh, the team is seeking collective ideas on how to improve the water infrastructure in the city, inspired by memories and longings.
In the follow-up phase, an interdisciplinary group of makers, designers, architects and researchers will map out the local dynamics and collect data through archival research, interviews and the creation of meeting spaces for serious discussions. In Marrakech, the project focuses on the areas: Medina, Khettara ain taher, Palmeraie and Canal de Zaraba. The team also connects with other relevant areas inside and outside Morocco. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop an integrated water infrastructure for the city and beyond. In addition to the research, the team is developing a 'school' for public programmes on water, an open archive, a series of publications and a web/radio platform. The core team consists of: Jeanne van Heeswijk, Francesca Masura, Abdellah Hassak, Amine Lahrach, Edouard Sors, George Bajalia, Jerome Giller, Noureddine Ezzaraf, Rim Mejdi, Sara Frikech and Soumeya ait Ahmed. The partners include: Dar Bellarj Foundation, Dar al Ma'Mun, L'Ecole Superieure des Arts visuals de Marrakech and Kulte Gallery. The project will be presented in the Netherlands at Het Nieuwe Instituut and BAK.
