Grant Programme for Internationalization → Open call 2 phase 1
We Are Data
Impakt Foundation, Cairotronica
IMPAKT and Cairotronica are together setting up an exchange platform with the aim of building an interdisciplinary community in the Netherlands and Egypt that integrates new technologies with the art and design practice. Within the programme, important discussions will be held about the effects of the current data-driven society on our world. The team aims to connect entrepreneurs, engineers and academics with artistic makers and designers to generate more attention for the question of 'why' we use new technologies, instead of the more traditional and technical 'how' approach. In the initial phase, 10 to 15 makers will be selected to follow a series of workshops and seminars in Utrecht and Cairo. The focus here is on strengthening the Egyptian digital culture sector and involving mainly young makers and students. In addition, under the guidance of a mentor, the participants will create new work that can serve as a starting point to stimulate social interactions and discussions relating to the theme. The results will be presented in a publication and during the Cairotronica Festival and an IMPAKT event in 2020. The curators of the programme are Haytham Nawar, Ghalia Elsarkbi and Nada Bakr in Egypt and Arjon Dunnewind, Tobias Revell, Inez de Coo, Guido Jansen and Luba Elliott in the Netherlands.
